Workshop on GIMP
GIMP workshop GIMP workshop was conducted on 23rd September, under Software Freedom Week -2009 with the aim of promoting open source.
GIMP (The GNU Image Manipulation Program) is an open source software raster graphics editor.
Primarily, GIMP is used as a tool for photo manipulations, such as resizing, editing, and cropping photos, combining multiple images, photomontage, converting between different image formats and basic animation.
A total of 30 students attended the workshop from various colleges of Karnataka. An overview of the topics covered in the workshop is as belowBasic terminologies related to image

Basic animationThe workshop was highly interactive and the participants were asked to do the image manipulations along with the workshop giving them hands on experience of the GIMP tool which made the participants enjoy the workshop.
The workshop was followed by a contest in which the participants were provided with a set of images and were asked to create a photo montage using a minimum of two of them. Also they were asked to create an animation of the final image. This contest tested the Image editing and GIMPing skill sets of the participants
A CD containing the GIMP software, presentation, manuals, worked examples, related videos, etc. was given to every participant.GIMP workshop was conducted by a team of 7th Sem students of E&C dept. The team consisted of

Open Quiz FINALS
Date: 23/09/09
open quiz The top four teams from the prelims were selected for this round. This finals consisted of four rounds. In this round the questions were from a wider spectrum of topics, but still there was an entire round dedicated to open source technologies. The team comprising of Rohit and Keith won the 1st, prize while the team of Hareesh and Hardick won the 2nd place. The audience also got into the act with many audience questions and lots of passed questions, and won themselves many goodies & CDs as audience prizes.
On the whole, the event was a successful one and the main aim of creating awareness about the open source technologies was accomplished.
