SCILAB Workshop

The Scilab workshop was conducted on 24-09-2009 under “Software freedom week 2009”.The event was held from 9.30 to 1.30 in VLSI Lab Electronics & Communication department. The workshop was planned to cover basics of Scilab and introduce the participants to the digital world.

Scilab is “Science-lab” developed and maintained by INARIA(France) and is extensively used in Digital Signal Processing.

The workshop was divided into 3 parts. An introduction to Scilab, practice session and contest.

The workshop contained introduction to Scilab, constants, operators, simple commands, matrix operations, different plots like 2D and 3D, polynomials, integration and differentiation, loop and branch etc. Workshop covered everything needed for the participants to start with Digital Signal Processing.

The workshop was planned to accommodate 30 students, but because outside college students came in large number, we extended it to 40 students. Workshop had students from BVB(Hubli), SDM(Dharwad), TCE(Gadag), KLE(Belgaum). The urge and hunger of the students to learn Scilab was amazing and encouraged the team to deliver more. Participants performed really well in practice session and in the contest.

The contest had 2 questions which covered all the material explained in the class.
The workshop was conducted by a team of 5 students from 7th semester E & C department.
